Cousins Ladislav SKANTAR and Peter SKANTAR (SVK) dominated the final to win gold in the canoe slalom men’s C2 event at Whitewater Stadium on Thursday.

Ladislav SKANTAR (SVK):

“We are very happy. We still cannot believe it.”

“We were starting from the very perfect position for us and we were just paying attention to not make any mistakes.

“We were going very fast. There were a few very little mistakes but the second half of the race was pretty fast for us and we were going very well.”

Peter SKANTAR (SVK):

On succeeding three-time Olympic Games gold medal-winning Slovak brothers, Pavol and Peter HOCHSCHORNER:

“We are very happy because we have kind of substituted the HOCHSCHORNER brothers and that’s why the gold was very high to reach for us.”

“I am very happy to have my cousin because after all we have been through he has always been a big support to me and I’m really happy to have him in my life.”

David FLORENCE (GBR) and Richard HOUNSLOW (GBR) won their second Olympic silver medal in a row in the canoe slalom men’s C2 event at Whitewater Stadium on Thursday. What a spectacular achievement!

David FLORENCE (GBR):

“I’m really pleased. I’ve been a bit disappointed the past couple of days since the C1 if I’m completely honest, so I just wanted to come here today and enjoy it and really go gate-to-gate and try to put on the best we could.

“Richard was absolutely solid out there. I thought we both were.

“We knew the times were going ridiculously quickly in the final and I was really pleased with the way we just got on with our own run. OK, it wasn’t gold but I thought we did a really solid run today.”

Richard HOUNSLOW (GBR):

“Davidis an absolute workhorse. He works me into the ground day in, day out. We have trained so hard for this and that’s three silvers for David now and two for me.”

“I really wanted to help get us up on to the top of the podium but the Slovaks are fantastic. They put in an exceptional run and to get that close was great.

“OK, we had a few little mistakes but I was very happy with the run and it’s great to deliver under pressure.”

Gauthier KLAUSS (FRA) and Matthieu PECHE (FRA) were devastated after finishing fourth in London ‪#‎olympics‬. Winning bronze in the canoe slalom men’s C2 event at Whitewater Stadium on Thursday was a great and well deserved relief. ‪#‎canoeslalom‬‪#‎ICFslalom‬

Matthieu PECHE (FRA):

“It was a pretty good time. After getting fourth place in London (2012 Olympic Games) this medal tastes pretty good for sure. It was a super final (and) I hope everybody enjoyed it on TV.”

“It means lots of things I cannot explain. It was eight or 12 years training everyday and focusing on the Olympic medal. There is everything on this medal.”

Gauthier KLAUSS (FRA):

“We have known each other a long time, 24 years, and we have been 15 years together so it is something we have built over the years and I guess it works.”
